CHILHAM → CANTEBURY CATHEDRAL

Step beyond the classroom and into centuries of history as your Year 8 students undertake an unforgettable 12km pilgrimage through the heart of Kent. Following ancient pathways through woodland glades and traditional apple orchards, this transformative day journey from Chilham to Canterbury Cathedral builds resilience, fosters team spirit, and connects young minds with England's rich cultural and spiritual heritage.

 

WHAT AWAITS YOUR STUDENTS:

This immersive adventure develops confidence, perseverance, and a deeper understanding of our shared past while creating lasting memories through authentic outdoor education.

FULL DETAILS

When & Availability
  • Dates: Five slots in July 2026 (post‑exam -30th June-4th July 2026)

  • Group size: 12–200 pupils (1 free adult place with every 12 Pupils)

 

The Route
  • Start: Chilham, nestled in the Kent Downs, a picturesque village on the Pilgrims' Way

  • Walk: Countryside trail through woodland and apple orchards (~12 km)

  • Finish: Iconic Canterbury Cathedral—a pilgrimage destination since Thomas Becket’s martyrdom in 1170

  • Transport: Both start and end points accessible by coach or rail

Primary focus is Year 8 pupils + accompanying teachers. However we are happy to discuss other year groups, or opening it up to the wider school community

Travel Options

Coach travel can be arranged with convenient drop off and pick up points or pupils in smaller groups may wish to travel travel by rail
